I myself think that the series will be ending VERY soon. I think so because of the message following the most recent chapter, chapter 563: Naruto will not will be in Japanese Weekly Shonen Jump this week. That strikes me as suspicious because of how far into the war the series, combined with the way chapter 563 ended.

I really love Naruto; that's what got me into Anime in the first place! :D However, I've got to say that Kakashi Hatake would always be my favorite though ;)

I have not heard of "Kakashi Hatake" and I'm a one of the biggest, major anime/manga geeks out there...like a on-lastest-anime/manga-the-second-it-comes-out kind of geek! Lol I'm going to have to go look it up now. What's the basic story line Ai?

Well there are two parts to Naruto: one when he's a kid and one when he's two/three years older called the Shippuuden. To start off, in the original series when he was a kid, Naruto is a nine-tailed demon fox kid and befriends Sasuke Uchiha (whose family was killed by his older brother and his bent over revenge), Sakura Haruto (who really doesn't have a backstory), and Kakashi Hatake (his teacher). Long story short, Naruto confronts his first enemies named Haku and Zabuza and learned the ways of the ninja. When the Squad 7 returns, Kakashi enrolls them into the Chunin exams. I'm going to skip a LOT of details but the main part is that nobody but a rather lazy guy named Shikamaru passes. In one part of the exams, Sasuke is cursed by a powerful ninja named Orochimaru. When the Sound Ninja (they're under Orochimaru) come to take Sasuke into custody, Sasuke abandons the Leaf Village to gain more power to finally kill his brother. Naruto goes training with a (perverted) sage named Jiraya and Sakura trains with another powerful sage named Tsunade (who became the Hokage; the leader of their village)...btw i skipped a LOT of good details so this is just an outline of the basic story line. Three years later when Naruto returns is the Shipuuden.I hope I helped :)

I must say I enjoy both 'Naruto' and 'Shippuden' ^^ Grow to love and miss the characters more somehow. :)
